Astronomer · Back-End Engineer | Registry

Astronomer is the commercial developer of Apache Airflow, a community-driven open-source tool that’s leading the market in data orchestration. We’re a globally-distributed and rapidly growing venture-backed team of learners, innovators and collaborators. Our mission is to build an Enterprise-grade product that makes it easy for data teams at Fortune 500’s and startups alike to adopt Apache Airflow. As a member of our team, you will be at the forefront of the industry as we strive to make Apache Airflow the de-facto standard in data orchestration.

We’re looking for the founding engineers of a brand new team at the intersection of our commercial and community efforts. As a part of a mission to curate the biggest community of data professionals in the world, we want the Astronomer Registry to be the go-to place for data practitioners to contribute examples, collaborate on best practices, and generally show off their work. Additionally, the experience of using the Astronomer Registry needs to fit seamlessly into the broader Astronomer ecosystem. That means you’ll work hand-in-hand with our data, core services, and other product teams with regards to API architecture, performance, and so much more.

What you get to do

  • Collaborate with the Product, Ecosystem, and Engineering Management teams to turn user stories into an executable technical plan

  • Design and implement an architecture for Astronomer Registry to highlight user-generated content (Airflow DAGs, providers, and more)

  • Build an engaging experience aimed at getting users to submit their own work

— Implement features like favorites, user profiles, and other social components aimed at engaging a community of data professionals

  • Create a cohesive experience with the rest of the Astronomer ecosystem

— Work with the APIs and engineering teams of Astronomer Cloud to fit into a greater architecture

Qualifications

  • At least 3years of professional experience with Node.js

— Solid understanding of GraphQL

  • Strong experience with testing (unit, integration, and e2e)

  • Familiarity with auth0 and other modern authorization systems

  • Extensive experience with Git & Github

  • Experience in areas such as databases, distributed systems, service oriented architectures, and backend performance measurement and optimization

Bonus

  • You’ve built a web app that focused on curating user-generated content

  • Experience in a peak performance organization, preferably a tech startup

  • You’re interested in curating developer communities

  • You’re a bit of a data nerd or have used Apache Airflow before
