constellr has offices in the European capital, Brussels, situated between the attractive Etterbeek and Watermael districts and in beautiful Freiburg, in south west Germany, bordering the Black Forest and near France and Switzerland.

About the team

To achieve our goals, we are building a state-of-the-art data platform, which transfers our satellite data to the cloud, where we process, enrich, and deliver analysis-ready geospatial data to internal and external customers. Our team consists of cloud, Data and backend engineers, reporting into our Head of Data Platform. 

Location

Ideally you will be based in Belgium or Germany, however we can be flexible across Europe for specific geospatial, earth observation and remote sensing experience. The team are mainly based across Germany & Belgium.

About this role

You will have a key role in designing and implementing the data platform, the backbone of the business using modern technology. This will contribute to bringing the world’s first commercial infrared constellation into orbit / enabling an entirely novel set of smart farming capabilities / building a new biophysical atlas of the biosphere, driving an unprecedented understanding of our planet.

As our Junior Backend Engineer, you will be:

  • Working closely with other backend engineers and stakeholders from the product, infrastructure, and image segment teams to ensure their requirements are being met.
  • Implement the services necessary to run our Data Platform, as well as our development environment.
  • Keep up to date with and evaluate new technologies, frameworks and standards.

About you

Required:

  • Bachelor or higher degree in Computer Science or related field; or relevant work experience.

  • Good programming skills, familiar with Shell.

  • An understanding of services and databases.

  • Familiar with the complete software development process.

  • Have good knowledge with different CI/CD tools available in the market (e.g., Gitlab CI, Github Actions, CircleCI).

Nice to have:

  • Earth Observation sector and/or NewSpace startups.

  • Concrete experience in Microservices, API, REST, RPC.

  • Understanding of Cloud services (e.g., AWS, GCP,).

  • Knowledge of containerisation and orchestration (Kubernetes and Docker).
