- Description: Deno goes extinct, standards for humans vs agents, a new version of H3, a fresh podcast, how to find breaking changes, a review of the SAP API, and more!

While preparing this week's newsletter, I added a post about moving from Deno back to Node, only for Cloudflare to acquire Deno two days later. But this isn't a straightforward acquisition.

The team will stop working on it over the next year. As the asteroid hurtles towards Deno, I find myself feeling sad. Deno pushed Node forward, making it far more enjoyable to build Node APIs. When *Deno Deploy* launched, I also built some carbon APIs on their edge network, but... those will stop working now.

I know JS isn't everyone's favourite language for building APIs, but I'm sad to see Deno go. Its death and acquisition leave me with even more questions about the future of open source and its community.

## The API Roundup

*API News, links, and tools from around the web*

### [Are Standards Still for Humans or Agents?](https://nordicapis.com/are-standards-still-for-humans-or-agents-in-conversation-with-lorna-mitchell/?ref=apisyouwonthate.com)

One of my favourite people in the API space, Lorna Mitchell, is dropping advice on how API standards apply to agents. Agents benefit from APIs with less ambiguity, clear descriptions, and good examples. Our existing API standards provide great guardrails. Almost everything we have been pushing for in APIs since forever benefits humans and agents.

### [I Tested 11 HTTP Resilience Libraries](https://blog.gaborkoos.com/posts/2026-10-04-I-Tested-11-Http-Resilience-Libraries/?ref=apisyouwonthate.com)

A test of eleven JS libraries for proving resilience when working with HTTP and covering things like retries, bulk retries, abortion, dedupe, and more. The author is a bit biased, since one of the libraries is his, but he accounts for it in the post. An interesting takeaway is that, for many resilience patterns, each library makes different choices about how it should behave. Quick, someone make another standard....

### [Friendship ended with Deno; now Node is my best friend](https://dbushell.com/2026/10/03/deno-to-node/?ref=apisyouwonthate.com)

It's time to go crawling back to Node. David Bushell talks about his trip back to Node while working on a SvelteKit app. The funny part is this came out before the Cloudflare announcement. I didn't realise just how much Deno's offerings have slimmed down or been abandoned over the last year. I am grateful for how much it pushed NodeJs forward, but sad to see it go. Plus, the logo was cute.

### [H3 V2](https://h3.dev/blog/v2?ref=apisyouwonthate.com)

A stable release of H3 V2 is now out. If you're not familiar with H3, it's an HTTP framework that powers things like Nitro and Nuxt. Version 2 comes with a rewrite around standard `Request` and `Response` so one app can run Node, Bun, Workers, and Deno. Although Deno may not be an issue anymore.

### [Introducing MSW 3.0](https://mswjs.io/blog/introducing-msw-3.0?ref=apisyouwonthate.com)

The best HTTP mocking library has dropped version three. MSW now fully supports GraphQL, making it one of the best libraries for mocking GraphQL requests. While also minimising its size and making some performance improvements, it massively improved how it intercepts network requests in Node. Some insane work has gone into this release.

### [Whoever Invented The SAP REST API Deserves To...](https://www.reddit.com/r/programminghorror/comments/1wzu1mx/whoever%5Finvented%5Fthe%5Fsap%5Frest%5Fapis%5Fdeserves%5Fto/?share%5Fid=mN-aZNVY2zbSASXkic8SL&utm%5Fcontent=1&utm%5Fmedium=android%5Fapp&utm%5Fname=androidcss&utm%5Fsource=share&utm%5Fterm=1)

We all love a good giggle, and this one popped up in my feed last week. Surviving other peoples API's is hard. I still dream about the Government's SOAP API I had to deal with a few years back. If you're struggling with someone else's APIs, [Mike and Phil have you covered](https://apisyouwonthate.com/books/surviving-other-peoples-apis/).

### [Breaking Change Detection in OpenAPI](https://apisyouwonthate.com/blog/breaking-change-detection-in-openapi/)

You don't want breaking changes happening in your API. Maybe it's time to reach for an AI tool? Detecting breaking changes is a problem with deterministic solutions, so don't reach for an AI tool just yet; check out Phil's latest post on how to handle them.

Docsalot founder Faizan Khan sits down with APIs You Won't Hate host Mike Bifulco to talk about helping devs automate and build better product docs... and more!
