OpenAPI is Coming For Us All
In this dispatch of the newsletter: Arrazo is adding SOAP, an interview with Tabstack, Cloudflare Forge, Overlays 1.2.0, Interactive API Testing, and more!
OpenAPI continues to grow as a powerful tool for planning and building developer products and SDKs. With the rollout of a new Overlays spec and community support for better linting (see below for both!) it seems like we're hitting a fresh wave of innovation.
Even if you don't directly maintain or build your company's OpenAPI Spec, the workflows and tooling available to you will become markedly better as OpenAPI and the surrounding marketplace of tools grows.
Progress in developer experience is the thing that keeps me from quitting my job and working on a beet farm, or starting a hipster consultancy specializing in handmade, 20011-style retro code, with jQuery and GraphQL.

Overlays Specification 1.2.0
The Overlay Specification just dropped a new version, bringing some great updates. Self-identification with a new $self field, clearer extends and base URI resolution rules, reusable actions and more. You can see the full spec in the link above or check out the release in Github.
Arazzo Is Adding SOAP
SOAP support is coming to Arazzo spec. Being totally honest I still shudder thinking about the terrible SOAP Goverment APIs I had to use back in the day. So why add SOAP to the Arazzo spec, isn't it dead? Turns out people have been adding workarounds of their own to support it so its time for the spec to be updated. Turns out SOAP isn't dead.
Introducing Forge
Cloudflare has been on a hell of role releasing products recently and a new one caught my eye and killed a bunch of startups. Say hello to Forge ready to generate API docmentation, SDK's, and more. Cloudflare is making the tool open source as they belive you should need a SaaS product to build tools for APIs.
What Does an Agent Actually Need to Use an API Product?
A look at what an agent need to use your API. Is API.json, and AGENTS.md file or something more? We all know the best combo though OpenAPI and Arazzo. A good read and has comment of appreciation from the API guy himself Mike Amundsen.
Fastify Now Supports OpenAPI 3.2.0
Fastify has finally dropped support for OpenAPI3.2.0 in their generator. Super happy about this one as Fasity is used by a lot of Node APIs and this will push a bunch more docs into using 3.2.0. Kin Lane had some thoughts on the release.
ElysiaJS V2
Turns out there are so many JS web frameworks that I can hold in my head. Elysia is a very fast framework sometimes even giving Go a run for its money. What I like about it is the schema is source of true for the server convering request validation, type inference and OpenAPI documentation. They dropped a beta of version two a few months ago and its looks very interesting.

OpenLint picking up where Spectral left off
Phil is back writing blog post again... hell yeah! This time he is back cover OpenLint to protect your API ecosystems with automated style guides from slop. Spectral may be slowing down but OpenLint is hitting the ground running.
🎙️ Giving Models an API for the Web, with Tabstack
Mike talks to Tessa and Steve from Tabstack about building an API that gives standalone models access to the web.

Interactive API Testing as the Primary Interface
Bruno argues for not treating documentation as static and start looking at ways to let users interact with it. A great read. Its getting harder and harder to read Bruno's post as being in Australia I know need to upload driving leincese to prove I am 18 to read sub-stack articles. Hello NordVPN.
